Well, here he was, Kai Townsend now standing before the Ranger Headquarters. The boy wanted nothing more than to be a Pokemon Ranger and help others out. He felt that he could use his mechanic skills along with what he knew about pokemon to his advantage and be able to get through any little test he was put through.
Taking a deep breath and readjusting his hat, Kai slowly entered the building and looked around silently, taking in his surroundings while trying to not look like a total idiot. Looking slightly confused, the dark haired boy called out to get anyone's attention, not knowing where or who he needed to go to for checking in.
"Hello? Anyone around?" Kai called out, glancing around.

You walked into the large ranger base and saw many rangers from all over the Dregga region and many potential rangers. You could tell the difference between a ranger and a rookie because rangers had badges and stylers on them while the rookies didn't. One boy ran up to you and smiled.
"Hey there, you must be new here. My name is Perry and I've been training with these guys to be a pokemon ranger for about a year now and its finally time for the exams come on!" The boy said as he pulled you further into the room.
You looked around and noticed that there were chairs and a stage set up in front of you. You also saw many computers on the side with secretaries taking down information and documenting it. You looked forward and saw hanging above the stage was what seemed to be a very large television.
Within minutes the rangers and rookies who were standing around and talking had taken their seats. It was then that a fairly muscular man stepped out on to the stage. He smiled at the crowd and the current rangers began clapping for him. The man cleared his throat and began.
"Good morning my friends, today we welcome a brand new group of persons into our ranks as Pokemon Rangers. The trials that we face everyday to keep order within the region and keep pokemon safe may be tough at times but we must keep fighting on." He smiled and walked closer to the crowd.
"Today we will test our new recruits and ensure that they are ready to begin helping Pokemon and Humans around Dregga. You will be tested physically and mentally and be taught how to use our equipment. In 5 minutes the rangers will escort you to the first area where your tests shall begin. Be strong rangers because the hunters we will meet are heartless and ruthless and wont hesitate to put you out of commission." And with those words he left the stage and the rangers began walking around getting everyone in line.
It seemed like it was going to be a really tough day.

Kai looked about and witnessed the more experienced Rangers before his eyes, and also could tell who the rookies were, and most looked more prepared than he was, which made him feel much more nervous than he already was. On top of that, there was a boy walking towards him at that very moment.
Listening to Perry, Kai nodded and tried to respond, but before he could, he was pulled along near a stage and sat down where it seemed someone was about to speak. Listening to the muscular man talk about inducting a new group of people, Kai only hoped that he would make the cut and not falter under what would seem to be a difficult set of trials before him.
"There isn't any hunter going to put me out of commission..." Kai thought to himself as he prepared himself mentally.

After the group had been lined up, the rangers began leading the new recruits, including yourself, through the halls. After a minutes of walking you soon found yourself in what looked to be an indoor track. The rangers lined up across the field and allowed each recruit to have to stand next to one of them. Surprisingly, both you and Perry ended up near to each other.
Almost immediately after everyone had sorted themselves the muscular man walked in once again.
"Welcome to our Indoor track, I don't think I introduced myself yet. My name is Steven, I am the head ranger in the Dregga Region. Here we will be testing two aspects of your physical fitness. Your speed and your endurance." He said firmly.
"We will use two sides of the track and have 8 recruits run 100 metre dashes. In this world we have to be able to out run or catch up to any wrong doer and for that we need to be fast on our feet." Steven said as the rangers took half of the recruits to the back stretch of the track while you and Perry ended up in the group on the front side of the track." Groups of 8 from both sides ran as fast as they could to try to impress the Rangers.
Perry ran in the group just before yours and won in style, he was really quick on his feet but now it was your turn. How would running fast work out for you?

Kai looked on in surprise as he was lead to an indoor track, but he smiled to himself as he knew he could run with the best of them, running a mile a day in the morning, the thought of being a standout at this part of the test flashing through the boy's mind. As long as they didn't have to do a sprint, it wasn't the best point of his running prowless.
It was to his horror that it would be the first thing they did, 100 yard sprints. "Aww man, just let me run all day, but sprints?!?" Kai thought to himself with a shake of his head. Taking a small breath, Kai watched as Perry powered through his sprint and emerged as the frontrunner, as he watched, he took a couple mental notes and tried to prepare himself to accelerate quickly.
"Explode out of the stance, keep your head down and run hard..." Kai thought to himself as he got the signal to go, the boy doing exactly what he ran through in his head, still feeling like he was slightly slower than he knew he could run.

You blasted out of the blocks as soon as you heard the gun and followed through with your strategy and ran as fast as you could. You were fit from all the distance running you did which actually helped you to run much faster than you had anticipated. Even though you were beaten by two much faster people you managed to run a pretty good time.
"Good work!" Perry said smiling. He could tell you were fit because you didn't even need to catch your breath. Many of the other persons were breathing off pretty heavily but they knew there was more to come.
You then began to hear clapping coming from behind you and turned around to see Steven. He had this look on his face which told you he was proud with this years batch of recruits. After the remaining groups were finished Steven stood up with a smile.
"Good, now everyone has to run 4 laps around the track now!" He said in a stern voice as all the recruits began running back on to the track to do the laps. Perry pulled you on to the track with him.
"Remember rangers, speed isn't the only thing that matters, we also need to know our endurance levels and be able to out last our opponents!" Steven said encouraging everyone to finish. "No walking run all the way through!" He added on as he over looked the activities.

Even though it felt like he'd been slower than normal, Kai was surprised when he finished in the top half of his sprint group. "That could have gone worse..." He thought to himself as he saw Perry approach him. "Thanks Perry, you wanna pace along with me? Better off than running alone..." Kai suggested, nodding to the track as he stretched slightly.
"I live for this..." Kai said jokingly as Steven instructed the group to run 4 laps about the track. Running effortlessly along with Perry, Kai paced himself with a run without going overboard, something he could keep up with without blowing his energy quickly. "Try and keep up man!" Kai called out with a chuckle, knowing full well the boy could keep up.

"Sure, running distance has never been my thing but one mile isn't that bad." Perry said smiling as the two of you began running around the track.
"So, I never got your name but you got mine." Perry said with a smirk on his face. You could tell he was friendly and he even looked around your age. The only difference was you could tell he preferred speed over anything.

"I could see that, you blasted out of the blocks." Kai said with a small chuckle, running alongside Perry effortlessly.
"You're right, but then again, we've been rushing around." Kai said with a laugh and nod. "The name is Kai, again its good to meet you Perry." He said lowly, trying not to look like he was goofing off or socializing too much in front of the experienced Rangers.

"Kai huh?" Perry said with a chuckle as the two of you continued to run around the track. "I plan on being one of the best rangers dregga has to offer. I'm going to move up the ranks as quickly as possible and then ensure that I keep everyone safe." Perry said with a sparkle in his eyes. You could tell that this truly was his passion in life. The two of you had already completed one lap and you were moving steadily around the second.

Kai listened to Perry's ambitions and couldn't help but admire how determined and devoted the boy was to becoming a Ranger, in fact, it instantly hit him that he needed to get that same kind of attitude, because helping people and pokemon wasn't enough, one needs to have pride in their profession and it sparked determination in the boy.
"Talking like that, you're well on your way." Kai said lowly, grinning over at Perry. "I too want to keep people and pokemon safe, along with preserving nature and doing it with all my heart, I'm not about blasting up the ranks as quick as I can, I'll do what I have to, gain experience, help where I'm needed and then I'll worry about the rank down the road." He pointed out.
"And Arceus willing, maybe I'll give you a run for your money..." Kai said with a chuckle, picking up his pace only slightly to surprise Perry.

Perry smiled, "The main reason I want to get up the ranks quickly is because the equipment is much better than what we start out with and if I have better equipment then I'll be able to help out more." Perry said as you both continued to run around the field.
"Good competition between rangers, that sounds like fun!" Perry said in response to your comment. He not only had his goals he also was very competitive.

Kai nodded as he listened to Perry's reasoning for wanting to rank up quickly, which was to be able to use the top of the line equipment and that would be able to let him help others more. As the thought ran through his head, Kai slowed slightly down to run side by side with Perry. "Yeah, I guess I could see that, but I bet I can optimize my equipment to work better no matter what rank." Kai said with a chuckle.
"Competition between teammates is what pushes others to the limit and inspires them to work harder, I'm all about doing that Perry." Kai said with a big grin.

After that short talk the mile had come to a very quick end. Steven was clapping at all his new recruits and he could tell he had a great bunch for sure. His butterfree floated next to him as the rangers once again lined everyone up and carried them to what seemed to be an indoor forest.
"Listen up, this will test your wit, endurance and your ability to think on your feet. In this forest my butterfree's son a very powerful caterpie hides." Steven the looked at his butterfree and smiled. "Just like his mother he is as devious as ever and it is your job to find him and bring him back to me." The other rangers looked around all smiling. Some of them seemed to be holding parts of their bodies as if they were remembering their experience with this challenge.
The Challenge started and one by one rangers did the test. Everyone who did it came out battered and bruised, some took long others did it quickly but no matter how long they took they all had bruises on them. Perry charged in and managed to take a very short time to find it but like the others he came out with a few bruises. His were on his knee caps.
It was finally your turn to enter the forets and find caterpie.

Kai had finished the mile alongside Perry with ease and now looked up as Steven seemed to be pleased with the performance of all the prospective Rangers. Before long, Kai found himself gazing into an indoor forest. "Heh, who would have thought..." The boy thought to himself as he looked about and listened.
Kai blinked and crossed his arms as Steven talked about what the next task was for the group and looking at the other rangers, he didn't like the looks of what was unfolding. "Yikes, just how devious is this little Caterpie, its making seasoned recruits look like embarrassed little girls..." He thought to himself as he watched Perry take his turn.
Soon enough the boy emerged and Kai witnessed the bruises on Perry's knee caps. "Sheesh, I hope I make it out of this alive..." Kai muttered to himself as he took a deep breath and moved into the forest himself, trying to quickly navigate around and find the crafty pokemon.
