Hello.
I know this is currently your "main" feature, but I have already seen this concept better pulled off many times. Let me explain.
Currently, you have Trainers, Coordinators, Rangers, Hunters, Gym Trainee and Legend. You deleted the other 3 while I was writing my suggestion, which I thought were just variants from Trainer and Legend. However, they just tell what our aim in our journey is.
The first suggestion I have is to add bonuses to each classes. In example, a Trainer is skill in training pokemons, so he gets a bonus experience. A Pokemon Legend knows how to cover his weaknesses, so he could reduce damage of his own element's weakness of a little bit. Bonuses like that will make a real difference between Trainer Types
The second suggestion is simply more Trainer Types. I have many types that I can suggest:
-Collector: One who aims to capture a kind of every pokemon. It can be reduced up to a category, such as a Type or a color, maybe! In that case, the player could have a random starter that is inside his category. Bonus to Catch rate if you take the first suggestion.
-Breeder: One who aims to breed pokemons. Brock in the Anime serie is a pokemon breeder. A bonus could be applied to eggs he hatches or gets, in that case.
-Myth Chaser: One who dedicates his life to seek for legendary pokemons or special pokemons. Now, that may enter in contradictions with your plot, so it's up to you.
-Scientist: One who tries to discover the laws behind Pokemons. They could get a Bonus to secondary effects, kind of like a weaker Serene Grace.
There can be all kind of trainer types like that. You can inspire yourself a lot from various trainer types that already exists in Pokemon games:
